"Under the Wave off Kanagawa," also known as "The Great Wave," is a famous woodblock print created by Katsushika Hokusai as part of his series "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji." The print depicts a dramatic scene of a towering wave in the foreground, with Mount Fuji in the background. The wave, rendered with dynamic lines and vibrant colors, appears to be on the verge of crashing onto the boats in the midst of a stormy sea.
"The Great Wave" is an iconic representation of the power of nature and has become one of the most recognized and influential artworks in the world. It embodies the concept of the sublime, where the overwhelming force of the wave is contrasted with the serene and majestic presence of Mount Fuji. Hokusai's meticulous attention to detail and his innovative use of perspective create a sense of depth and movement, making the print visually striking and emotionally evocative.
