Yamanaka lacquerware is made in Yamanaka hot springs area of Kaga City in Ishikawa Prefecture.
Its history began in the 16th century and has developed by inviting skillful craftsmen from Kyoto or other production areas in Japan since the late Edo period, the 19th century.
The major feature is what it expresses a texture of wood by making the best use of its grain pattern and that it has both beauty and functionality.
This is a stylish bowl with plenty of depth. It is made by the technique that is hollowed out a Sen wood with the wood turning.
The coating is finished by the technique called “Fuki-Urushi”, which repeats many times by applying the lacquer and wiping off it with a cloth. Or it is called "Suri-Urushi". It brings out the beauty of the wood grain as well as gives strength to the bowl.
It is recommended for soup dish such as Soba, Udon, and Ramen. Since it is made of wood, it has warmth retention and the food does not get cold easily. Even if a hot food is put in it, the outside is not so hot and easy to touch. Recommend salads or cereals as well.
It is handmade one by one. Please note that the grain of wood and the color of lacquer may have a slight difference between the image and the actual product.
Please refrain from using the microwave, dishwasher and dryer.
