Description

This Iai practice sword is manufactured in Gifu Prefecture which has historically been known as the workplace of the Japanese swords. The blade is handmade with the traditional technique of sand casting.

This sword was made by Nagasone Okisato, a famous swordsmith from Shiga prefecture next to Kyoto. His original work was to build armor but the demand for armor decreased, he started a new career as a swordsmith in Edo(Tokyo) at the age of 50.
His sword is known as the name “Kotetsu”. Kotetsu does not have a deep curve, but the blade was strong and supple. The quality of Kotetsu was estimated well among Samurai, he made over 200 swords in his life.

The sheath is finished by the technique of “Kanshitsu”.
It is used on the surface of the sheath, where lacquer powder is sprinkled first and then coated with lacquer. It is known for its durability and firm grip.
The rough texture on the surface is created by the powdered lacquer and it also brings out the softness and the superior quality of the lacquer. The rough texture is created by adjusting the size of the grain of the lacquer powder.

This sword should be used not only for Iai practice but also for decoration in your living.
