Samurai Yukikawa Sanpei Munenori
from Stories of the True Loyalty of the Faithful Samurai

Yukikawa Sanpei Munenori was a historical samurai who lived during the mid-Edo period and played an important role during the turbulent times of the late Edo period. He served as a senior retainer of the Tosa Domain.
In this work, depicts his courageous posture, swordsmanship, and unwavering loyalty and chivalry. Through Kuniyoshi's skillful artistic expression, the portrayal of the figure of Gyokuen Sampē Munenori and the landscapes of that era come to life vividly.

"Stories of the True Loyalty of the Faithful Samurai" is a series of ukiyo-e prints that was published in 1847. It consists of 51 prints, including the 47 loyal retainers from the play "Kanadehon Chūshingura" based on the story of the Forty-seven Ronin, along with additional characters.

Nakamura Kansuke Masatoki is one of the famous characters depicted in the works of Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Kansuke was a real historical figure who lived during the Edo period and was particularly known for his appearances in Jōruri and Kabuki performances.
Kansuke is often portrayed with his long hair tied up, wearing samurai armor, and depicted in a bold posture that exudes strength and dignity. Kuniyoshi's portrayal of Nakamura Kansuke represents the spirit of the samurai, courage, and loyalty.
