【About Saito Hajime’s Sword – Ikeda Kishinmaru Kunishige】

Ikeda Kishinmaru Kunishige was a master swordsmith active in the late Edo and early Meiji periods.
His works were known for their strength, practical design, and bold hamon (temper line), and were highly regarded by warriors of the time.

One of his swords was famously used by Saito Hajime (1844–1915), the enigmatic and skilled swordsman who served as the captain of the third unit of the Shinsengumi—a special police force in Kyoto during the final years of the Tokugawa shogunate.

Saito Hajime was known for his calm demeanor and deadly technique, especially his signature left-handed thrust.
Unlike many of his comrades, he survived the fall of the shogunate and later served as a police officer in the Meiji period, reportedly keeping this sword throughout his life.

The original blade, forged by Ikeda Kishinmaru Kunishige, has been preserved and displayed in exhibitions, and is admired as both a work of art and a symbol of loyalty and discipline.

■【Note】

This product is a modern reproduction created by a contemporary sword maker, inspired by the sword used by Saito Hajime.
It was not made by Ikeda Kishinmaru Kunishige himself.
