A folding screen is called Byoubu in Japanese. Its name comes from shutting wind. It was necessary furniture for life as space partitioning since the Nara era (710~794). Nowadays, it is developing a new folding screen to fit modern life. You can decorate it by standing it up or hanging it on a wall using a hanger.

Sakura (Cherry blossom) : Kinsai kakou (Kinsai Processing)
The cherry blossoms part uses TAKASAGO foil, a type of foil made from silver as the base, with gold color reproduced using complementary colors, using a technique called Kinsai Kakou traditionally found on TOMESODE* kimonos. Special adhesive is applied to the patterned sheet, adding the design with texture and depth.

*TOMESODE: A formal kimono, typically black, with designs along the bottom of the skirt worn by married women on ceremonial occasions.

Kurobaihaku
On the rich background of cherry blossoms, Kurobaihaku, a silver-black material, made through a chemical reaction, is applied to Washi paper. It is created by utilizing the natural reaction between silver and sulfur, which causes the silver to turn black. This sulfurization process is a characteristic feature of pure silver foil. By controlling the thickness of the foil, subtle variations in color occur, creating a beautiful gradient effect. Each sheet of foil has its own unique appearance due to this process, and they are randomly pressed and combined to create a single, one-of-a-kind foil sheet. The technique was originally developed in Japan and is a very special skill that can only be performed by a limited number of skilled craftsmen.
