Taizo Minagawa was a Japanese woodblock print artist born in 1917 and passed away in 2005. He was born in Tokyo and after graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts (formerly known as Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music), he worked as a woodblock print artist.
Minagawa was one of the representative printmakers in the Japanese art world after World War II, and produced many works, particularly known for his depictions of urban landscapes. His works are characterized by unique color tones and shading, and realistically depict the hustle and bustle of the city and people's lives.
In addition to his career as a printmaker, Minagawa was also active as an art educator, mentoring many younger artists. He taught at Tokyo University of the Arts, Musashino Art University, and other institutions, and fostered many talented printmakers.
Minagawa's works are highly regarded not only in Japan but also in the United States and Europe, and are collected by many art museums and collectors. He is considered an important figure in the Japanese woodblock print world, along with artists such as Toshiji Fujita, Taiichi Kobashi, and Benji Asada.
