Kamisaka Sekka was born in Kyoto.
He learned painting under Suzuki Zuigen from Shijo school.
When he was 23 years old, he realized that decorative arts was the way he should aim for, and started studied craft design under Kishi Kokei who was a master of Japanese crafts at the age.
Sekka has had a great influence on the world of traditional Kyoto crafts such as dyeing and weaving and ceramics.
When Sekka went to overseas, he found that western arts were influenced by Japanese culture a lot.
After that, Sekka took many Japanese style on his works and continued making not only painting, but also dyeing and weaving, ceramics, lacquer art, interior decoration, and even landscaping.
