This is a one-of-a-kind hanging scroll, a truly special work found nowhere else in the world.

Artist Profile

Shinji Kouno

Japanese-style painter (Nihonga)
Born in Kanagawa, Japan.
Graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts (B.F.A. in Nihonga).

He studied under Jun Yamagishi (Nitten) and Takashi Nishijima (Nitten).
He has also worked in Kyō-Yūzen kimono design, and created textile works for renowned actresses and singers of traditional Japanese ballads.

Currently, he continues to create nihonga paintings rooted in classical traditions, while expressing his own contemporary sensibility.

The opening surfaces of both the wooden storage box and the outer box bear the artwork title handwritten by the artist.
These images show the wooden box and outer box for the hanging scroll titled “Takarabune (Treasure Ship)”.
Each artwork comes with its own wooden box and outer box, individually inscribed with the corresponding title.

In some cases, aromatic wood is placed inside the box as a natural insect repellent.
This does not indicate any damage or chipping to the wooden box, so please rest assured.
Please keep the aromatic wood inside the box as it is.
