This product is a lacquered tea caddy. The impressive rough texture is made with a technique called “sabi-nuri”. “Sabi”, which literally means rust in Japanese, is a name of the mixture of dried clay powder and clear lacquer.
For cleaning, please wash it by hand with warm water and a soft sponge or a cloth. Please wipe and dry it well before storing.
