This Iai practice sword is manufactured in Gifu Prefecture which has historically known workplace of Japanese sword. The blade is handmade with the traditional technique of sand casting..
This sword is called “Himetsuru Ichimonji Aikuchi Uchigatana Koshirae” and made by the school of Fukuoka Ichimonji in Okayama Prefecture. The origin of this name is by the dream of a swordsmith of Fukuoka Ichimonji.
One night, a sword smith had a dream that one princess appeared and she pointed one sword and said “Tsuru (crane)”, and asked him to help her. So, this swordsmith named this sword as “Himetsuru Ichimonji” (Hime=princess, Tsuru = crane, Ichimonji = his sword school name). The blade has deep beautiful curve and it seems like the neck of crane too.
One of the famous Sengoku Samurai(16th century) loved this “Himetsuru Ichimonji”, but his style of sword using technique was suitable for a sword without handguard (Tsuba), “Aikuchi”. Originally, this sword was the style of ancient style of Tachi, but it becomes more practical for buttle field as “Uchigatana Koshirae”.
The curve and long hilt are so unique design that Uesugi Kenshin loved.
This sword should be used not only for Iai practice, but also for decoration in your living.
We sell wood stand separately too.
